Super Long Family Vacation, Day 1!

The Londerbug waiting patiently at the dock.
Most people don't know that Beck is a thumb sucker...He's trying so hard to stop, but I had to get a picture of him and his "critterpillow" that he used to sleep on the plane!
We're finally home! We took the two older kids on a week long Caribbean cruise and then had my mother in law fly the Pipster out to meet us in Florida (Disney World) for another 4 days. Crazy you say? Yep! I am completely aware of that now. We had an amazing time, but 11 days is too long to be away from home! We had 4 stops; Nassau, Bahamas, Tortola (British Virgin Islands), Catalina Island (Dominican Republic) and Princess Cays (Bahamas). We love cruises, and this is our 4th one together. Not to be a cruise snob or anything, but we don't plan on cruising with Costa Cruise Lines anytime soon. It was a lot of fun, but it is an Italian cruise line, and let's face it, the Europeans do things a little bit different! Take for example the advertised "poolside seafood buffet." Mmmm, I thought, crustaceans. I do love me some shrimp! Nope. All sorts of whole squid. Big, little, purple, gray; you name it, it was there. Eyes and all. Ew. Plus, all the desserts looked and tasted the same; bland. No wonder all those Europeans are so skinny! I will say that the best part of the cruise was the kids club. It was called the Squokker Club, and the kids LOVED it! The entire staff was Italian and French, but they all were pretty fluent it English, so it was fun. They had so many fun activities for the kidlets! There were crafts, parties, tea time, movies, etc. I couldn't believe how many languages were spoken on the ship! Everything, and I mean everything, was said in at least 6 languages, if not more. The staff's language skills were phenominal! We met some great people, all with kids around our kids same ages. We only met one family from the states. The others were from Canada and England. I tell ya, with a ship full of 90% or more people who don't speak English, you tend to migrate towards the ones who do! Now onto day one's events!

Getting to Ft. Lauderdale was a treat. First of all, I had to leave my sweet Piper. It nearly killed me. I honestly did it for her own good. She's still taking 2- 2+ hour naps a day and sleeping 12 hours at night. I didn't want to throw her off schedule for that long. Plus, she's a crazy climber, and I figured she just might climb overboard. Another reason was to spend more time with the two older kids. It seems like the past 16 months has been centered a lot around the baby, and while they're fantastic sports and love her like crazy, we figured they needed some "mom and dad alone time." We took the red-eye out Saturday night/Sunday morning. The kids did great considering the amount of sleep they didn't get, and the extended waiting period there was to board the ship (over 3 hours...) We FINALLY boarded the ship at around 1:00 pm and headed right up for something to eat. We explored the ship and hung out until dinner time. We dressed up and headed to dinner. We were assigned a table with another family with 2 kids, which was really fun. They were from Canada, but were temporarily in Florida for the Canadian Military. Needless to say, after a very long day, we were ready for bed!

Finally boarding the ship!

First night dinner. Crappy picture, but it's all we have of that night!

Me and my Katertot!

Next: Nassau, Bahamas and Atlantis!
