Meningitis is no fun!

Londons story started like this:
On Thursday, March 14, London started complaining of a bad headache and a stomach ache. I gave her some ibuprofen and had her lay down. She told me that she had fallen off her rip stick and had hit her head on the street the day before.  Thinking she might have a concussion, I checked her pupils frequently and they were reactive and normal.  Later that afternoon, she started running a fever.  My first reaction was relief, because that meant it most likely wasn't a concussion.  We treated the fever overnight, and by noon the next day, she seemed to be feeling better. She had a cast party for Les Mis at our house that night, and a few hours into it, she started back up with the stomach ache, head ache, and fever.  We put her to bed and she slept until 10:30 the next morning.
When she woke up, she could barely move.  She made it downstairs and got into the fetal position on the couch.  Piper asked her a question, and when London went to look at her, she moaned, saying that she couldn't move her neck.  I checked her temperature again, and she was fevering.  She also was complaining of light sensitivity, so I packed up the kids and headed to the clinic.
A few minutes into her exam, the Dr suspected meningitis, so he sent us right over to the ER. I called Matt, Jenny (to come get Piper), and my mom, who was in SLC at a conference.  We were taken back right away and she first had a CT scan, then IV's started and blood drawn.  The Dr did a lumbar puncture and then started her on several antibiotics and anti viral meds IV. It was so scary! Eight hours or so later, we were admitted to pediatrics.  Nat and Kevin were also there with baby Nash, who had RSV. We settled in and tried to get Londy to eat something.  She was getting progressively more agitated at this point.  She was in sensory overload, and everything from the food to the monitors beeping, to her pain was making her freak out.  I don't blame her; it was no fun being there. We had family visit, and then settled in for a VERY LONG night.  I didn't sleep at all; London maybe got 4-5 hours of sleep.  She was in a lot of pain, and kept crying out in her sleep that she hurt.  However, when we tried waking her up to give her meds, she was super combative and screamed for 4 hours that she wanted to go to church the next day.  I tried so hard to be patient, but with no sleep, it wasn't easy.
The next day wasn't much better.  Not much to do, and we were both grumpy.  The dr came in around 5 pm to let us know that the 24 hour cultures came back negative for bacteria, (which we had suspected) but told us that he'd feel better having us stay an additional night to monitor her.  She absolutely freaked out at the thought of staying another night, so after a LOT of pleading and begging, the Dr agreed to discharge us late that night.  We had to follow up the next day with the pediatrician, and start on oral meds. I thought all was going well until we got home and she went completely crazy on us; all over me having had changed her sheets so that she'd have a nice clean bed to come home too...
It's been 5 weeks now, and other than frequent headaches, she's almost back to her old self.  We've noticed a lot of increased sensory issues since she was hospitalized, but hopefully that'll get better. Just glad she's healthy!!!
